JOCKEY PUMP
A jockey pump (also called a pressure maintenance pump) is a small pump used in a fire-fighting system to maintain pressure in the fire water piping network and prevent the main fire pumps from starting unnecessarily.
ELECTRICAL PUMP
An electrical pump is the main fire pump driven by an electric motor. It is part of the fire pump set and is used to supply high-pressure water to the fire-fighting system when a fire occurs.
DIESEL PUMP
A diesel pump is a main fire pump driven by a diesel engine instead of electricity. It serves as a backup (standby) pump that automatically starts when the electrical pump fails or when there is no power supply during a fire emergency.
FIRE PUMP ROOM
The Fire Pump Room houses all the main fire pumps, including electrical and diesel pumps, as well as associated control panels, jockey pumps, and other fire-fighting equipment. It ensures a reliable water supply under high pressure to the building's fire protection system during an emergency. Proper maintenance, accessibility, and ventilation are essential for the efficient operation of all fire pumps.
BREACHING INLET
A breaching inlet is a fitting installed outside a building that allows the fire brigade to pump water into the fire-fighting system (such as the wet riser or sprinkler system) during a fire emergency.
DRY RISER SYSTEM
A Dry Riser System is a vertical pipeline installed in a building that remains empty (dry) under normal conditions and is connected to a water supply only during a fire by the fire brigade through an inlet connection at ground level.
WET RISER SYSTEM
A Wet Riser System is a vertical pipe permanently filled with water and kept under pressure from a fire pump and water tank, allowing fire-fighters to connect hoses at landing valves on each floor for immediate use during a fire.
AIR RELEASE VALVE (ARV)
An Air Release Valve is a small automatic valve installed at high points of a piping system to release accumulated air while the system is under pressure.
